What if I told you that by simply adding one thing to your daily diet, you could potentially improve both your fertility and erectile function? Would you believe it?
Today, I’m going to tell you about one food that may be beneficial for both of these things — your fertility and your erections.
In 2024, a research team conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis. In other words, they combined the results of multiple studies and focused on one specific question: what effect does this food have on fertility?
After reviewing numerous research papers, they selected four studies involving a total of 875 people.
These participants consumed this food consistently for about three months. The studies included both men and women between the ages of 18 and 49 — basically, people of reproductive age.
Two of these studies were conducted specifically on men, and they were randomized controlled trials, which are considered a strong type of scientific research.
One group consumed two servings of this food every day, while the other group did not receive it.
When researchers looked at the men who consumed this food regularly, they found improvements in several measures of sperm quality.
Sperm motility — meaning how effectively sperm can move — improved by around 51%.
Sperm morphology — meaning the shape and structure of the sperm — improved by around 54%. Sperm shape and structure are important factors when it comes to reproductive health.
And perhaps the most impressive finding was sperm vitality, which increased by around 61%.
Sperm vitality refers to the proportion of living sperm. In general, having a healthy number of living and properly functioning sperm is important for reproductive potential.
So, what was this food?
It was nuts.
Almonds, walnuts, pistachios, hazelnuts, and similar nuts.
In one study, participants consumed 75 grams of walnuts every day for three months.
In another study, participants consumed 60 grams of mixed nuts daily for 14 weeks.
The mixture included 30 grams of walnuts, 15 grams of almonds, and 15 grams of hazelnuts.
But how can nuts potentially improve sperm quality?
What makes them so special?
Let me explain.
Nuts contain healthy fats, including omega-3 fatty acids and monounsaturated fats.
Research suggests that including healthy fats in the diet may support sperm quality and function.
Nuts also contain antioxidants, which are important for protecting cells from oxidative stress.
They also provide various vitamins and minerals that support overall reproductive health in both men and women.
Another benefit is that most nuts have a relatively low glycemic index, meaning they generally have a smaller effect on blood sugar levels compared with many high-carbohydrate foods.
And this matters because poor blood-sugar control and insulin resistance can negatively affect overall metabolic and reproductive health.
Now, let’s talk about erections.
Just as nuts may support sperm quality, they may also support cardiovascular and blood-vessel health.
The antioxidants found in nuts can help support the health of the endothelial cells that line your blood vessels.
And one particularly interesting nutrient found in nuts is an amino acid called L-arginine.
L-arginine is involved in the production of nitric oxide.
Nitric oxide plays an important role in relaxing blood vessels and supporting healthy blood flow.
And healthy blood flow is essential for achieving and maintaining an erection.
Pistachios, in particular, are rich in various nutrients and antioxidants.
One small study included 17 men who consumed 100 grams of pistachios every day for three weeks.
The researchers evaluated their erectile function and blood flow.
The results were interesting.
The men showed improvements in erectile function and penile blood flow.
And this wasn’t simply based on what the participants reported.
Their blood flow was also evaluated using Doppler ultrasound, which showed measurable changes.
So, there is some scientific evidence suggesting that nuts — particularly pistachios — may support erectile function and blood flow.
I’ll also provide links to the relevant studies below this video.
But there’s one important thing you need to remember.
Most of these studies were conducted on relatively healthy men, and some of them involved small sample sizes.
So, we cannot assume that the same results will occur in every person, especially people with different health conditions.
However, adding a reasonable portion of nuts to your daily diet can be a simple way to support your overall nutritional and reproductive health.
But don’t think that simply eating nuts will solve everything.
If you want to support your sexual health and overall well-being, you need to strengthen four major pillars of your health.
Number one: your diet.
Number two: exercise.
Number three: sleep.
And number four: stress management.
If these four areas are not in good shape, no single food, tip, or remedy is going to magically fix everything.
So, start by strengthening your foundation.
A balanced diet, regular physical activity, good-quality sleep, and effective stress management are all important for your overall health and hormonal well-being.
That’s all for today’s video.
I’ll see you in the next one.
Take care of yourself.
